SUMMER DOUBLES
2010
LADIES
The Ladies doubles 2010 competition was one of the most closely contested competitions ever, in this particular event. he lead changed hands virtually ever week, as the 12 teams played each other over a 7 week series of games. he result hinged on the very last game when a great win saw Linda and Anna a first time pairing and arguably "form book outsiders", win the competition with 8wins from 12 games, and a healthy 33 plus points. A splendid victory for the duo who gelled as a team from the start, Linda the number one pointer was in good form, going through a purple patch after winning outright the resent Saumarez park melee against 42 other players. Anna played the part of the team milieu, pointing and even shooting - or more accurately playing a "pousette" shot (push) as demanded by the play.
The runners up spot was won by - also arguably "form book outsiders" - Gwen and Ruth, also with 8 wins from 12 games but with 14 less points than the winners. They were as surprised as anyone with their performance having to beat many much more fancied teams on the way. This is by far the best result that this duo has achieved after playing together for many years. They stated that they played a much better tactical game, visiting the head, discussing who would next deliver what shot, ruth being the lead pointer and gwen pointing and shooting as demanded by the head.
Winning a superb third place with 7 wins again arguably "form book outsiders" were Lynn and Margaret Le P. Another first time pairing with no recognised shooter, they had to rely on sustained accurate pointing throughout. Both agreed that they played well together, and on the strength of the result, have entered in the September open, on there way to third place they bet last years winner who were favourites to win again this year.

MEN'S
In the men's doubles 2010 15 teams played each other over a 7 week period, and with the better weather many games were played on the preferred outdoor terrains
Seb and Iain won the competition in style, with 12 wins from 13 games. Their massive 84plus point difference shows the large margin of their victory, on average only 6 points were scored against them in each game. Iain played an impressive pointer role, his high lob and short role to the coche he executed with sustained precision throughout. Seb the shooter was in great form, his great delight being not just to simply shoot an opponents boule out of the way, but to smash it with the velocity of a bullet.
Shane and Neville T recorded 10 wins from 13 games won a very creditable runners up position. Theirs a performance of two halves, losing 3 of the first 5 games, then finding better form to win the last 8 games. It is Shane who calls the tactics and the shots, a very experienced player adept at any kind of shot, while Neville in his relaxed style, sustains accuracy to execute the shot called for by Shane.
It was a pairing of extremes that took the third place position. Geoff, the club President and a player of many many years, paired with Brandon, a junior member of only one year. Their 9 wins down to the leadership and control of Geoff, Coupled with some accurate shooting when under pressure by Brandon.
In forth place were Dave H and Bonnie with the same tally of 9 wins as the third placed team, separated only by a few points difference. Losing their first two games proved very costly, but they rallied to win the next 6 games.
