Home Back
Inter Insular 2008
It was Guernsey’s turn to host the competition
this year and, as usual, Condor decided we would start later than expected!
The boat was an hour late bringing our Jersey friends and competitors but
it didn’t dampen the spirits of the day, which kept us all on a knife-edge to
the very last game!
We started in true Guernsey style with Tea/Coffee and Buttered gache for
all, while the teams were drawn.
Then the Battle Royal began - each team playing four games - some more
successfully than others - but generally with much light-hearted banter and
inter Island ribbing!!
A real mixed bag with quite a few surprise results, the only “Fanny”
game (13 - 0) achieved by Stella Machon and Peter Surry against an otherwise
very successful Jersey pair.
The sun shone all afternoon, with a typically blustery Guernsey wind to
mask the heat, resulting in a fair spattering of red patches, unnoticed by
everyone watching the last “battle”, which was to make or break the result.
Everything resting on this last game, the score progressed slowly, with much
cheering, sighing and holding of breath until a magnificent shot from Chris
Romeril ended the game.
Jersey won the cup with a score of 25 games against
23
A
magnificent spread was laid out by the “catering” ladies, for everyone to
enjoy at the end of the afternoon, while “old” friendships were confirmed
and new ones forged.
Presentations
were made and photographs taken, before the Jersey team were returned to the
Harbour for a triumphant journey home.
